On The Corner
Since opening in 2014 The Promontory has been presenting the best in R&B, jazz, hip hop, rock, and dance music to appreciative South Side audiences. This genre-defying programming has resulted in the venue’s first weekly series, spotlighting Chicago’s most vibrant talents in a fresh, fun format.
The Corner presents solo performers, duos and trios in an intimate, dynamic performance space in the venue’s lounge area. Barriers between performers and audience will be removed, the limitations of genres will be defied, and the creativity of Chicago’s most innovative artists will be brightly spotlighted. The Promontory’s doors will open at 7pm each Monday with the sounds of the South Side’s best deejays, followed by an 8pm performance of that week’s featured artist. Admission to the corner is always $5 and this is a 21 and older event.
Though The Corner will feature a single artist each week, to celebrate opening night, and highlight The Corner’s diversity, there will be three artists on September 14th. Headlining is HXLT, the recent signee to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music, who has spent his years in Chicago’s underground bringing hip hop energy to punk rock, and vice versa. Also appearing is enchanting pop rock duo ZIGTEBRA. Charismatic jazz renegade SAM TRUMP, known for his work with Sidewalk Chalk and innovative side projects, opens.
